Tungsten Carbide Wear Strip System.

Questions And Answers.

Question.  What is it?
Answer.    It is a simple means of using extremely hard tungsten carbide tiles to reduce severe abrasive wear experienced when handling abrasive materials in various applications, such as drilling, mixing, scraping, etc.

Question.  What does it consist of?
Answer.     It consists of a variety of different shapes of mild steel strips, 168mm long, faced on at least one side with tungsten carbide tiles. These strips are also supplemented by special corner pieces for complete versatility.

Question.  What is special about the strips?
Answer.    They are designed so that they can be easily bent, cut and welded into position.
They can also be removed with an angle grinder or cutting torch.

Question.  Is a special welding technique or process required?
Answer.    No. Any electric welding process, such as "stick", T.I.G. or M.I.G. can be used.

Question.  Does the heat from welding affect the tiles?
Answer.    No. Tungsten carbide is not affected by heat and the braze which is used to bond the tiles in place melts at approximately 1120oC: well above the temperature generated during welding.

Question.   Can the tungsten carbide tiles withstand impact?
Answer.     Two grades of tiles are available; normal grade and mining grade. Mining grade would be used for impact conditions.

Question.   Can they be used in hot conditions?
Answer.     Yes up to approximately 800oC. Above this temperature the mild steel body would start to oxidize.
